Skye Dowell, LPCC
Hi, I’m Skye (they/them), an art therapist and trauma counselor. I work with people who are ready to explore themselves more deeply and discover new ways of healing through creativity, curiosity, and connection.

About Skye
Like many therapists, my path to this profession was inspired by my own healing journey. I believe deeply in the transformative power of creativity. To be human is to be creative; our lives are our own creations. Through art and the creative process, we can make the unconscious conscious, transmuting painful experiences into something meaningful.
As a non-binary artist with AuDHD, I bring particular care and understanding to my work with neurodivergent and gender-diverse clients. Outside of therapy, I love watercolor, ceramics, spending time in nature, and being with loved ones. I also have a longstanding interest in the human energy field and the ways our inner and outer worlds are connected.

Skye’s Approach to Care
My approach to therapy is trauma-informed and utilizes experiential, creative, and psychodynamic practices. I have extensive experience working with trauma and complex PTSD and offer EMDR, art therapy, guided imagery, visualization, and psychoeducation to increase self-awareness. I also work from an energetic perspective, with an interest in how our experiences are held and expressed through the body.
In trauma work, I place a strong emphasis on resourcing and building a sense of safety before moving into deeper processing. I believe healing cannot be forced; the nervous system needs to move at its own pace. When we develop the capacity to be present with difficult emotions, we can begin to work with the underlying experience rather than simply managing its symptoms.
Creativity can be a powerful part of this process. Art therapy offers ways to explore experiences that may be difficult to access through words, including parts work, IFS-informed approaches, and somatic art therapy. No artistic experience is necessary. The goal is not to make something beautiful, but to give form to what is happening within us.
I am especially passionate about working with LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent clients and creating a space where people can bring their whole selves without needing to edit or explain who they are. Ultimately, I see therapy as a collaborative process of becoming more connected to yourself and finding the path to healing that is right for you.
