About Sara
While Sara is a new intern at Fireside, her journey in therapeutic care and investment in the Durango community are not new. A 30-year resident of Durango, Sara spent 20 years in education, 13 of which at Animas High School, where she helped teens and families grow educationally and relationally. AHS was built on strong teacher-student relationships, which extended to families and the development of the whole child, ensuring the well-being of the family. After years in Wilderness Therapy, this was not an unusual extension of her teaching responsibilities. Increasing the wellbeing and stability of students and families became a focal passion. Returning to graduate school later in life, counseling has felt like a natural fit for her. In May, she will complete her program and receive her LPCC.

Sara’s Approach to Care
I come from a humanistic background, understanding the significance of being a knowledgeable and secure base to land. Ensuring I am practicing with evidence-based practices is critical, but more important to me is being able to sit with a client and ensure they feel truly seen. I believe none of us are broken; sometimes we all can get stuck. And with a trusted human we can get unstuck.
Sara’s education and experience
Currently in graduate school, in her final-year internship. She will graduate in May 2027 with a Master’s in Counseling, receiving her LPCC in May.
