Angel Veach, LSW
I'm Angel, and I do child-centered play therapy with kids and families here in the community I grew up in. There's no right way to show up to therapy. You just show up and be you.

About Angel
I’ve lived in this community for over twenty years, and even as a little kid I noticed there was a barrier between adults and children really communicating and understanding each other. I cared, early and stubbornly, about giving children the voice they need to work through their emotions and their behaviors. Growing up here, I also saw how few resources there were for that, especially for kids, and that’s what set me on the path to becoming a social worker. The moment it truly clicked was a supervisor at Pueblo Community College describing what this work looks like, and it was a light-bulb, this-is-what-I-want-to-do moment.
Outside the office, being close to my family is what feeds me most. I fly fish, and I have a lot of nerdy hobbies too, I play D&D, I crochet, and I spend time with friends. It’s a really great community with a lot of fun to be had. And one thing families always apologize for is big behaviors and big emotions. Honestly, I love them, because it means your child feels safe enough to have them here, and it shows me exactly what we get to work on together.

Angel’s Approach to Care
I like to meet children where they’re at, which can vary a lot from day to day. Some come in with very high emotions, some come in ready to do the work. It’s grounded in connection and safety, helping a child feel understood before anything else, because healing starts when a child or family feels truly seen, not judged or rushed. I pay close attention to what a child is communicating through behavior, emotions, and play, and then I work with the family at a pace that feels safe to them, rather than forcing change, because forcing change on children was one of the barriers I noticed even as a kid.
Play is a child’s natural language. Especially from about three to ten, children are still building the words and the reasoning to talk about what’s happening in them, so they play it out and act it out instead. Play lets them run through real-life scenarios without real-world consequences, and watching the subtleties of it, when the characters start talking to each other, is watching them mirror their world. One of my kiddos recently was going through the loss of a parent, and I assumed that would be the biggest thing in the room. Instead, unprompted, they picked up two dolls and had them say, I hate you, I don’t want to be friends. Through play, they showed me they needed to work on a friendship, not the loss, that day. That’s the work: following the child’s lead.
A lot of my role is helping parents understand what their child is saying through behavior and play, because when everyone’s on board, kids grow faster and further than they would seeing me an hour a week. Family therapy, for me, is really about moving a family past communication into comprehension, actually seeing through each other’s eyes, and once that empathy piece lands, the whole family works better as a unit.
Angel’s education and experience
I’m a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) , doing the child-centered play therapy work I care most about. My background includes teaching high school students practical writing skills for college, nearly a decade as a home healthcare provider, and supporting elementary-aged students in classroom and small-group settings focused on emotional awareness and behavioral regulation. I’ve provided one-on-one support for children with developmental disabilities and worked as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), helping children build communication skills and develop positive, functional behaviors .
