Teen & Adolescent Therapy
Teen and adolescent therapy at Fireside Center. A place to be yourself first, with an adult who's actually in your corner.
From what our teen clients tell us, growing up here can feel small and limiting.
You’ve been around the same people your whole life, and it’s easy to feel pigeonholed, stuck in a box that your peers, your parents, or a small school put you in. If you don’t fit the molds that get celebrated, certain sports, certain activities, it can be hard to find your place and hard to feel safe enough to try on who you might be. The opportunities exist here. Sometimes it takes extra work to find them and to feel safe exploring.
Teen therapy is first about having space to be yourself. So much of it is building rapport and trust, because teens have had plenty of experience with adults who feel like they need to be in charge and tell them what to do. At the start, it’s not about the therapist or what the therapist thinks. It’s your space, and you get to take your time trusting it.

Not every teen who comes here wants to. Plenty get driven to the first appointment by a parent, show up annoyed, and end up staying because it turned out to be theirs and not their parents'.
- Anxiety about school, grades, or what comes after graduation
- Depression that reads to everyone else as attitude or laziness
- Feeling boxed in by who people here decided you were years ago
- Not fitting the sports or activities the town rewards
- Trouble at home, or parents in conflict
- Friendship fallout, bullying, or social media that never turns off
- Figuring out identity when everyone already thinks they know you
- Grief, a move, a breakup, or anything that landed harder than expected

Your Support System
Most teens walk in braced for another adult who's going to tell them what's wrong with them.
That’s not what the first sessions are. Early on it’s mostly getting to know you, what you’re into, what your world actually looks like, and you get to take your time deciding whether to trust the person across from you. Sessions might mean playing a game while you talk, going for a walk, or your therapist listening to a song that matters to you. There’s room to laugh, and nothing you bring gets treated as too small to mention. Your therapist will get things wrong on purpose sometimes and hand you the chance to correct them, because you’re the one who knows what happened.

We don't work for your parents.
Rohan Roy and Holly Brooks both start from rapport and let everything else follow, which means a teen sets the pace on what gets talked about and when. Neither one comes in as the adult in charge with advice ready. Holly talks about letting a teen correct her, because getting to correct an adult is a win for a kid who rarely gets one, and being understood is a win either way. Rohan hears from teen clients how small a mountain town can feel when you’ve grown up around the same people and don’t fit the molds that get celebrated here.
Both of them are working with the version of you that’s still forming, before the outside messaging sets, and both are honest that the hardest cases are the ones where the trouble is at home, which is the one place a teenager gets no say.
